Regional Forum on Local Water Governance

Under the patronage of His Royal Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, the EMPOWERS Partnership is holding its Regional Forum on Local Water Governance, entitled “Water is everybody’s business.” in Amman, Jordan on June 6-7, 2007.

The Forum's principal objective is to promote a policy environment that is conducive to participatory stakeholder based approaches to planning and implementing water sector activities.

The Amman Seven Principles and Policy Recommendations for Improved Local Water Governance

The Seven principles and policy recommendations presented in this booklet is the outcome of a two-year (Nov 2005 - June 2007) consultative process that culminated in the adoption of the seven principles in The Regional Forum on Local Water Governance, held in Amman-Jordan on June 6-7, 2007.

These principles and recommendations advocate policy and institutional arrangements that are necessary to enable local government and community organizations engage in a planning and management of water resources that are equitable, effective, and sustainable.

Overview of the EMPOWERS Partnership Programme

2003 - 2007

During the last four years, the EMPOWERS Partnership Programme has been developing and piloting innovative methods, tools and technologies for improving local water governance.

This brochure provides a brief overview of the approach developed by The EMPOWERS Partnership and a description of the piloting that has taken place at the village, district and governorate levels over the duration of the project, from Sept. 2003 to August 2007.
